Development Update

Tanks! For Playing
2 min readSep 18, 2022

I can’t believe it has been two months since our last update!

Last week was a monumental week for crypto with The Ethereum Merge happening after years of promise.

While the merge itself was a technical success, network usage fees have plummeted down to as low as 2 Gwei (approx. 10c per transaction) today, demonstrating a significant reduction in interest in usage of the network.

Ethereum’s move to Proof-of-Stake away from Proof-of-Work is a fatal blow to one of the strongest blockchain critiques— the perceived environmental impact of cryptocurrency mining. Only time will tell whether this will lead to new institutional interest in Ethereum and the surrounding ecosystem, however we at Tanks remain bullish on the long term prospects of blockchain, cryptocurrency and web3.

On the Tanks front, we’ve hired a new dedicated Unity developer for Season Two, they have been with us for almost a month now and have made a solid start. All of our Tank models, skins and Season Two tiles have been consolidated and are ready to go! The game servers have been deployed and initial testing has begun. Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be getting our marketplace and game lobby ready to enable us to open up for early access testing. If you are keen to test, let us know!

We are also close to finalizing the onboarding of one or more full stack developers to help with our marketplace, websites, smart contracts and various backend services. This will give us the start of a development team who can support the game moving forward in the short term.

The recruitment process has not been straight forward. We have had over 200 strong applications for Unity and Full Stack Development consuming multiple weeks of interviews. We thank everyone who has participated in this process and apologise for the delays!

Some members of the community have expressed an interest in an AMA — if there is sufficient interest, we can hold a special session next weekend. Leave your AMA question here https://forms.gle/FJH2seoKzrC5rTLR7 and we’ll endeavour to answer it!
